Membership Guidelines & Rules
1. USA Fencing Membership Requirement
All fencers must maintain an active membership with the United States Fencing Association (USA Fencing) for insurance and safety compliance. Current USA Fencing membership fees for the 2026–27 season are $34 for Access and $109 for Competitive membership (these are USA Fencing association fees, not SDFC dues). The USA Fencing season runs August 1 to July 31.
2. Equipment Policy & Purchasing
Equipment is provided for introductory classes, so beginners do not need to purchase fencing gear before getting started. Regular memberships do not include ongoing equipment loan; participants who continue in the sport will want their own gear. Need your own equipment? The Fencing Post, a specialty fencing equipment retailer, is located in the same building as SDFC. Visit The Fencing Post ↗
3. Month-to-Month Cancellation Policy
Memberships are continuous until you notify us in writing 15 days before the next monthly billing cycle. No long-term lock-in, no penalty fees.
4. Private Lesson Booking & Policy
Private lessons are available to SDFC members, including Athlete/Open Fencing members. Fencers taking private lessons must represent San Diego Fencing Center as their primary fencing club. Private lessons are one-on-one 20-minute technical sessions with SDFC's experienced coaching staff. Lessons must be booked a minimum of 12 hours in advance via our Zen Planner portal or in the office. Cancellations are accepted up to 4 hours before the lesson. Lessons included in monthly membership packages expire at the end of the billing month.
5. UC San Diego Undergrad Access
Because SDFC coaches support the UCSD NCAA Varsity program, current UCSD undergraduate students (athletes and non-athletes) can participate in Open Fencing free of charge with valid university student ID.
